International Eagle. That’s the name of the award recently presented by the Association of School Business Officials (ASBO) International to Kishore Kuncham, deputy superintendent of Freeport Public Schools and a member of NYSIR’s Board of Governors.
ASBO’s 2009 International Eagle Award is the highest recognition bestowed by the association, and singles out school business officials who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and exemplary commitment to education, students and the profession. It was presented during a recent ASBO International Conference in Chicago.
Kuncham was cited for contributions made over his 15-year tenure in Freeport, including success in leading the district from financial crisis to a top bond rating. ASBO also noted Kuncham’s role in helping to pass $52 million in bond issues at little or no cost to taxpayers, open the first magnet school on Long Island, launch a full-day kindergarten program, reduce class sizes and open an alternative high school.
NYSIR adds its congratulations, and proudly notes that Kuncham has been a member of the NYSIR Board of Governors since 2005.
