Deleting Online Crime
Crime is like any other business: If you want to succeed in it, you’ve got to keep up with the technology. That’s why identity theft, phishing, pharming and the illegal transfer of money from one online account to another have flourished in the wake of Internet advancements.
To help slap the virtual cuffs on bad guys who use the Internet to commit crimes, NYSIR has joined with the New York State Association of School Business Officials to sponsor a free half-day seminar for public school districts across New York on how to deal with cyber crime. The seminar, which features a discussion of current issues, causes, and steps districts can take to reduce exposure, will be held in six regions of the state on six different dates.
Those dates and regional locations include:
• March 29 – Batavia, at the Holiday Inn, 8250 Park Road, (585) 344-2100
• March 30 – East Syracuse, at the Hilton Garden Inn, 6004 Fair Lakes Road, (315) 431-4800
• April 12– Smithtown Long Island, at the Long Island Sheraton, 110 Vanderbilt Motor Parkway, (631) 231-1100
• April 13 – Suffern, at the Holiday Inn, 3 Executive Blvd., (845) 357-4800
• April 26 – Poughkeepsie, at the Hampton Inn & Suites, 2361 South Road, (845) 463-7500
• April 27– Albany, at the Crowne Plaza, Ten Eyck Plaza, State and Lodge streets, (518) 462-6611
